The classic Halloween film. I’m writing this in 2012. Dracula is 81 years old. And it’s a bit creaky, but remains seminal and spooky. Bela Lugosi is second to none, a magnetic presence on screen. The story is satisfyingly creepy, with Renfield losing his mind and Mina Harker being transformed into a vampire herself… all shot is glorious black and white with a primitive but effective soundtrack.
Magnificent film. Original, engaging — I mean, how many movies from the 1930s do you still watch and enjoy?
